Dear Friend,

2020 has been and continues to be the most challenging year for the entire world. The COVID 19 pandemic has affected humanity in numerous ways - financial, emotional, education, health, culture. While all of us are trying to cope with the effects of the pandemic, it is the economically underprivileged who are most affected, with limited access to basic necessities, including healthcare.

A charitable institution like Sankara Nethralaya, is now caught in a Catch 22 situation - how to balance between our limited resources and still continue to offer free services to those who cannot afford to pay for their treatment, including surgery and other treatments. Truly, no challenge we have ever faced in the last four decades has come close to what we are facing now. Every activity of ours – hospital, out-patient and surgery facility, free services, rural & urban camps and essential follow-up eye-care – is affected. Our patients from across India are unable to reach us, except for emergency cases. Though patient flow has improved gradually over the last 2 months with the opening up of transport facilities across state lines, we have been unable to conduct free screening camps and subsequently free surgeries due to government health guidelines.

We are also facing the huge cost of protecting our employees who are at the frontline of patient care and our patients and their attendants who come to the hospital for treatment. Personal Protection Equipment including masks, hand sanitizers, face shields etc., for hospital personnel who interact with patients and for the patients, is an unexpected but critical additional expense.

Sankara Nethralaya needs your support today more than ever before. As an institution that has followed the founding principle of “By the Society, For the Society” for the last 42 years, we are reaching out to Society to support us in these difficult times.

We invite you to partner us in our Fight against Preventable Blindness
