Welcome to Sankara Nethralaya's MESU (Mobile Eye Surgical Unit) – a groundbreaking initiative bringing quality eye care to the doorsteps of rural communities. MESU, a collaborative effort between Sankara Nethralaya and IIT Madras, was launched in 2011, initially serving Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and later expanding to Jharkhand. In February 2024, we further extended this service by introducing a new unit in Telangana.

MESU Camp in Gandey village, Jharkhand - April 2025

Camp 113 of the MESU Adopt-a-Village initiative by Sankara Nethralaya USA was conducted from April 8 to April 18, 2025, in Gandey village, Giridih district, Jharkhand. Held at the Community Health Centre, the camp was supported by sponsor Venkat Kannan from New York, with local support from BOXA Trust, Bokaro. As part of the Jharkhand MESU outreach, this 113th camp screened 692 patients and performed 72 cataract surgeries, continuing the mission to deliver quality eye care to underserved rural populations in eastern India.

Camp 1 of the MESU Adopt-a-Village initiative by Sankara Nethralaya USA was held from April 7 to April 17, 2025, in Peravali village, Singanamala Mandal, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh. Marking the inaugural Puttaparthi MESU eye camp, the program was sponsored by the Rayalaseema Association of North America (RANA). During the 10-day camp, 566 patients were screened and 114 cataract surgeries were successfully performed, bringing vital eye care services to this rural community in Andhra Pradesh.

Camp 19 of the MESU Adopt-a-Village eye care initiative, organized by Sankara Nethralaya USA, was held from April 2 to April 12, 2025, in rural Telangana. The camp took place at Madhavanji Aware Rural Hospitals in Padakal, Ranga Reddy district, and was supported by sponsors Krishnadev Reddy Lattupalli of Houston, TX, and Dr. Vijaya Mekala. As part of the Hyderabad MESU eye camp series, this 19th camp screened 611 patients and performed 70 cataract surgeries, continuing the mission of delivering quality ophthalmic care to underserved rural communities.

The MESU Adopt-A-Village Eye Camp, organized by Sankara Nethralaya USA and sponsored by the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS), was successfully held from March 20 to March 30, 2025, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu. Over the ten-day period, 3,092 patients were screened, and 201 cataract surgeries were performed, restoring vision and transforming lives. This initiative underscores the power of collaboration in bringing critical eye care to underserved communities, offering hope and a brighter future to those in need.

Sankara Nethralaya’s Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) successfully completed its 18th eye camp under the MESU Adopt-A-Village initiative, continuing its mission to provide quality eye care to rural communities.

Sponsored by Dr. Kalvakuntla Laxman Rao, Houston, TX, the camp was held from March 6 to March 16, 2025, at Ayyappa Gudi, Mustabad, Rajanna Sircilla District, Telangana.

A total of 873 patients were screened, and 69 cataract surgeries were successfully performed.

Sankara Nethralaya’s Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) successfully completed its 135th eye camp under the MESU Adopt-A-Village initiative, continuing its mission to provide quality eye care to rural communities.

Held from February 25 to March 6, 2025, in Annamedu, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, the camp was sponsored by Smt. Sobha Reddy & Sri Prasada Reddy Katamreddy, Brand Ambassador, Board of Advisors, SN USA, and coordinated by Kumaraswamy Reddy. This marks their third eye camp sponsorship.

A total of 570 patients were screened, and 91 cataract surgeries were successfully performed.

Sankara Nethralaya’s Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) successfully conducted its 17th eye camp under the MESU Adopt-A-Village initiative, providing critical eye care to rural communities.

Sponsored by the Madadi Family, the camp was held in memory of late Sri Madadi Bhupathi Reddy & late Smt. Madadi Samyukta Reddy from February 15 to February 24, 2025, at Garlapati Sudhakar Reddy Nilayam, Gangapuram, Yadadri District, Telangana.

A total of 929 patients were screened, and 111 cataract surgeries were successfully performed.

Sankara Nethralaya’s Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) held its 134th eye camp under the MESU Adopt-A-Village initiative, delivering critical eye care to rural communities.

Sponsored by Srini Reddy Vangimalla and Narasa Reddy Vangimalla, the camp was conducted in memory of late Sri Prasad Reddy Vangimalla from February 1 to February 10, 2025, at Minamareddy Gari Palli, Annamayya district, Andhra Pradesh. A total of 630 patients were screened and 102 cataract surgeries were performed during this camp.

Sankara Nethralaya’s Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) successfully completed its 16th eye camp under the MESU Adopt-A-Village initiative, extending quality eye care to rural communities.

Sponsored by Chandrasekhar Reddy Marepally & Dr. Manorama Reddy, the camp was held in memory of late Sri M.V. Ranga Reddy, I.A.S., & late M. Vasantha Reddy from January 26 to February 4, 2025, at Raithu Vedika, Kannekal, Nagulapalli, Nalgonda, Telangana.

A total of 642 patients were screened, and 100 cataract surgeries were successfully performed.

Sankara Nethralaya’s Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) conducted its 132nd eye camp in rural Andhra Pradesh under the MESU Adopt-A-Village initiative. Sponsored by Adi Morreddy & Rekha, Board of Trustee, SN USA, the camp was held in memory of Morreddygari Nagireddy, Hindi Pandit.

Held from December 27, 2024, to January 6, 2025, at Kesapuram, Puttaparthi, Sri Sathya Sai District, the camp screened 712 patients, with 132 cataract surgeries successfully performed.

The MESU Adopt-A-Village eye camp organized by Sankara Nethralaya USA took place from December 8 to December 18, 2024, at ZPHS School in Velgonda, Bijanapally, Nagarkurnool, Telangana. Sponsored by Bindu Vemireddy and Murli Reddy, President of Charter Global, this camp marked the 14th MESU eye camp in Hyderabad. With the aim of bringing quality eye care to underserved rural communities, the camp screened 675 patients and successfully performed 74 cataract surgeries, restoring vision and transforming lives.

Mobile Eye Surgical Unit (MESU) camp, sponsored by Sobha Reddy and Prasada Reddy, esteemed members of the Board of Advisors, SNUSA, provided much-needed eye care services to the rural community. A total of 784 patients were screened during the camp, and 101 cataract surgeries were performed, restoring vision and transforming lives.

Sankara Nethralaya USA successfully organized the MESU Adopt-A-Village eye camp in rural Telangana from November 18 to November 28, 2024. Sponsored by Raghavendra Reddy Sunkireddy, President of AIS Inc., this was his second MESU eye camp sponsorship. The camp, held at Sri Lakshmi Function Hall in Amangal, Mahabubnagar, marked the 13th Hyderabad MESU eye camp. A total of 1,908 patients were screened, and 150 cataract surgeries were performed, bringing the gift of sight to those in need.

This Chennai MESU Camp #129 was sponsored by Srinivasa Emani, RamaLakshmi, and Harshavardhan Reddy in memory of the late Sri Emani Singireddy Anjayya Garu and Sri Emani Rangareddy Garu. Held at the Panchayat Office, the camp screened a total of 533 patients and performed 86 cataract surgeries.

Sankara Nethralaya USA conducted a MESU Adopt-A-Village eye camp in rural Telangana from November 1 to November 11, 2024, sponsored by A. Jalandhar Reddy, Managing Director of Anusha Projects Pvt Ltd. This marked the second MESU eye camp sponsored by Mr. Reddy and the twelfth Hyderabad MESU camp. Held at the M.L.A. Camp Office (Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Praja Bhavan) in Achampet, NagarKurnool, Telangana, the camp successfully screened 892 patients, resulting in 137 cataract surgeries, significantly impacting eye health in the local community.

A total of 438 patients were screened for various eye conditions, with 37 cataract surgeries performed to restore sight to those in need.

Sponsored by Ram Kotti (APTA) in memory of the late Sri Raghavarapu Vasundhara garu, this Chennai MESU camp (128th camp) provided crucial eye care to the local community. Over the course of the camp, 788 patients were screened for eye ailments, and 92 cataract surgeries were performed to help restore sight.

Sankara Nethralaya USA orchestrated and raised funds for an eye camp held in Pulavanur, Tamil Nadu. This initiative took place aboard our Mobile Eye Surgical Unit and was graciously sponsored in memory of Dr. CS Rangarathnam. Spearheaded by Professor TES Raghavan of the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA, and his family, the camp aimed to address prevalent eye health issues in the community. Throughout the camp's duration (March 5, 2024 to March 14, 2024), a total of 711 patients underwent comprehensive screenings, while 92 individuals received free cataract surgeries, marking a significant stride in enhancing accessibility to essential eye care services.

The Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) extended its support by sponsoring an eye camp as part of Sankara Nethralaya's MESU-adopt a village sponsorship program. Collaborating with Sankara Nethralaya's MESU unit, patients were screened and cataract surgeries were performed. During the camp which happened from February 20, 2024 to March 1, 2024, a total of 2995 patients underwent screenings, with 210 patients receiving essential cataract surgeries.

SN USA diligently coordinated the first comprehensive eye camp was organized at Telangana in Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy Stadium, Yousufguda Hyderabad, from February 19 to February 29, 2024. The camp received generous sponsorship from Srinivas Ganagoni of New Jersey, USA, through the MESU Adopt a Village sponsorship program. Over the course of the camp, a total of 1570 patients underwent screenings, with 191 individuals benefiting from cataract surgeries.

The camp, spanning nine days from January 25 to February 3, 2024, was sponsored by Dr. Mohan Mallam MD, California, USA, as part of Sankara Nethralaya's MESU - adopt a Village sponsorship program. During this camp, as many as 721 patients were screened, while 97 patients had their cataract surgeries performed free of cost.
